Author Guidelines

Submissions guideline

Before submitting the manuscripts, authors are requested to read carefully and comply with the guidelines for submitting manuscripts. Authors who do not comply with the manuscript submission guidelines may result in rejection of the submitted manuscript.

The manuscript has not been previously published, nor is it being considered for publication in any other journal.

Manuscripts are sent as files in Open Office, Microsoft Word, or RTF document formats.

The manuscript is written according to the template provided and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the text at the appropriate point, not at the end.

Each reference should be provided with a URL as a link.

Manuscripts must adhere to the stylistic and bibliographical requirements outlined in the Author's Guide, following the template provided.

 

Guideline for author

General Information

Jurnal Perkebunan dan Lahan Tropika is published twice a year in June and December. The journal will be published after the review process by the reviewer. Articles can be written in Indonesian or English. Articles were research papers or unpublished reviews related to aspects of science and technology as well as the socio-economic aspects of plantation crops and tropical lands. Journals can also receive and publish articles in the form of studies on the governance and policies in the fields of plantations and tropical lands.

Type of paper

Two types of paper can be accepted to be published in PLT journal.

  1. Original research paper
    Research papers with complete studies showing a novelty that may contribute to the development of agricultural science, especially in the field of tropical plantations crops and tropical lands resource management.
  2. Review paper
    Reviews should provide up-to-date substantial information as well as critical evaluation or opinions of emerging technologies or future directions in the field of tropical plantations crops and tropical lands resource management.

Cover letter

The cover letter must contain the title of the manuscript, author, affiliation, type of article, claim of novelty and confirmation that the manuscript has not been published, or submitted for publication elsewhere in any language. Authors were also asked to suggest three potential reviewers for their manuscript from different institutions and provided no conflict of interest with an email address or contact phone number. Title page should be on every manuscript. The title page should at least contain:

Main text research paper contain:

  • Title
  • Abstract and keywords

Title. Title should be compact, clear, informative, and describe the overall content of the article. Better not to too wordy (12-16 words).

Authors. Name of the authors should be fully written, without academic degrees and titles. Put number (in superscript) to indicate the affiliation and the corresponding author.

Affiliation. Write down the full postal address of each author's affiliation, including the street name and number, city, province, country, and ZIP code.

Abstract. A concise abstract is required (150-200 words). Written briefly in English, containing background, research objectives, methodology, results and discussion, major conclusion of the study, and your research contributions to science. An abstract is often presented separately from the article, thus it must be able to stand alone (completely self-explanatory).

Keywords. Written in English and were chosen carefully (maximum 5 words) which are different from that are written in the title, considering the main topic in order to improve on-line accessibility, and written alphabetically.

Introduction. Introduction should be written briefly, provide an adequate background, state the originality and novelty of the research, avoiding a detailed literature survey or a summary of the results. Indicate the aims of research in the last paragraph.

Materials and methods. This section should contain Research site, here the specific location for the study should be explained. Explain the research step in different sub title. The research step should be explained clearly, including sampling (if any), research design (if any) as well as the data analysis (if any). Sufficient information should be presented to assist repetition of the research. Once you have modified the methods, you should explain the modification.

Results and Discussion. Results and Discussion should be written as a series of connecting sentences. Results should be clear and concise. Well-prepared tables and or figures must be of significant feature of this section because they convey the major observations to readers. Any information provided in tables and figures should no longer be repeated in the text, but the text should focus on the importance of the principal findings of the study. In general, journal papers will contain three-seven figures and tables. It is higly suggested that discussion be focused on the why and how of the research findings can happen and to extend to which the research findings can be applied to other relevant problems. The discussion should be referred to primary relevance references. 

Conclusion. Conclusion should be written clearly based on your research result in a paragraph.

Review paper.

The abstract should be informative and state briefly the aim of the research, materials and methods, the principal results, comprehensive discussion, and major conclusions. An abstract is often presented separately from the article; thus, it must be able to stand alone (completely self-explanatory). References should not be cited, but if essential, then cite the author(s) and year(s). Abbreviations should be avoided, but if essential, they must be defined at their first mention.

Keywords. Key words were chosen carefully (maximum 5 words) which are different from that are written in the title, considering the main topic in order to improve on-line accessibility, and sorted from A to Z.

Introduction. Introduction should be written briefly, provide an adequate background, state the important and the novelty of the review. Indicate the aims in the last paragraph.

Main article. This part should contain the body of the article and may also be split into subsections with short and informative headings.

Conclusion. Please write your research conclusion in here. Conclusion should be written clearly based on your discussion results in a paragraph.

General guidelines

 

Acknowledgments. Acknowledgments are expressed in a brief; all sources of institutional, private, and corporate financial funding and support for the work must be fully acknowledged.  Please give the name of the funding source and grant number.  

Figures and Tables. Figures and tables are followed by the title of the picture placed just below the picture and the title of the table placed above the table. The title of the table and picture should be numbered. The figures should be able to be clearly printed. The displayed tables are without vertical line, whereas horizontal lines can only display 3 main horizontal lines which are 2 horizontal lines for column title and closing line from the bottom line.

Equation. Equation should be written left aligned and numbered in the brackets. The numbers placed at the end of the right margin of the column.

 

Other formatting details should be considered. 

Abbreviations. Abbreviations should be written at the first mention of the full term and used consistently thereafter. 

Species scientific names. Binomial names with an authority should be written in full in the title and the first time the name is stated in the text e.g. Imperata cylindricaHemileia vastatrix B. et Br.. Afterward, scientific name of the species is written in shortened scientific name e.g. I. cilyndricaH. vastatrix.   

Italicization. Non-English words origin should be italicized, excluding terms that are widely used in the English language; e.g. cempedak.  

Numbers. Number which is put in the beginning of the sentence should be written in alphabetic while when it is located within sentence should be written in numeric.

Units of measurement. Jurnal Perkebunan dan Lahan Tropika follow into the International System of Units (SI) for how units of measurement are written.  

References 

References should be arranged alphabetically without any numbering and the space between each item is single. The rules of the references writing are as follows:

Article in scientific Journal   

Author(s) encouraged to use reference from scientific journal with DOI number. Journal title is written in italic and the title is abbreviated which refers to the international standard of journal abbreviation.
