Abstract


The energy crisis is marked by the scarcity of fuel which drives the increase in world oil prices, and the increase in consumption of fossil fuels causes the depletion of fuel supplies and environmental pollution. One way to overcome this problem is to develop alternative fuels that tend to be more environmentally friendly and more renewable. Since the waste contains carbon-containing biomass, it can be used as an alternative fuel. Oil palm empty fruit bunches can still be used for various uses that still have economic value, namely as briquettes. Briquettes are fuels derived from biomass that have gone through various processes, briquettes are solid fuels by pressing. The purpose of this research is the utilization of oil palm empty fruit bunches for household fuel and steam power plants and to obtain the calorific value of oil palm empty fruit bunches briquettes. The method used in this research is the experimental method. Research on making briquettes from oil palm bunches by varying the combustion temperature of the cooking process from 400oC - 450oC and varying the composition of 30 grams of charcoal powder, a mixture of 5% tapioca flour glue and 15 ml of air mixture. The results showed the content of empty coconut briquettes, Moisture in Analysis 4.38%, Ash Content 7.13%, Volatile Matter 8.61%, and fixed carbon content (fixed). carbon) 79.88 %, Calorific Value (Calorie Value) 6324 kcal/kg.
