JENIS-JENIS BURUNG ENGGANG (Bucerotidae) DI DESA NANGA RAUN KECAMATAN KALIS KABUPATEN KAPUAS HULU
Abstract
Hornbills are icons of the tropical rain forest Asia that have much role in the spread of the seeds of which are important in maintaining a healthy of the tropical rain forest. Hornbills is protected by the Indonesia goverment because the populations decrease. Research hornbill in village Nanga Raun has never done so that the information is still limited and need to do to know how many hornbills in the village Nanga Raun. This study found four species of hornbill in West Kalimantan are Anorrhinus galeritus: 10 individuals, Rhinoplax vigil: 11 individuals, Buceros rhinoceros: 32 individuals and Aceros undulates: 20 individuals. Rhinoplax vigil was the most endangered species found and should have taken more attention where birds hunting is quite high and traded on international. IUCN has raised the status of this bird from near threatened to critically endangered, which is one stage toward extinction.
