Abstract
This research aimed to describe the role of teachers in the cultivation of independence of children aged 5-6 years in kindergarten Bina Sari Pontianak City. The method used in this research was the descriptive method with the qualitative design. The subject of this research was the class teacher group B and children aged between 5-6 years at kindergarten Bina Sari Pontianak City. The instrument used to gather the data in this research were observation, interview, and documentation. The result showed: 1. The role of the teacher as a mentor in the child’s independence planting, the teacher always give direction, watching and guiding every activity inside and outside the classroom to the children to get used to not depend on others, 2. The role of the teacher as a motivator in planting child’s independence, the teacher always encourage the children when they are doing their activity, and the teacher gives a reward to the children, 3. The role of the teacher as facilitator in planting child’s independence, the teacher provides and give the facility to help the children in, also create enjoyable learning activities, in conclusion, the role of teachers applied in the cultivation of independence of children aged 5-6 years in kindergarten Bina Sari Pontianak City has been implemented properly.
