Abstract

ABSTRACT

This research is motivated by the lack of interest of the younger generation in the traditional art of Besimpatn which is a hereditary legacy from their ancestors and the need to study efforts to preserve the traditional music. The objectives of this study are: 1) Describing the Besimpatn vocal melody, 2) Describing the Keromong Besimpatn melody. Descriptive analysis is the method used by researchers to conduct this research. The data in this study were the structure of the vocal melody and the Keromong Besimpatn melody. The results of the study concluded that Besimpatn's melody was a literal repetition of one melody pattern, be it a vocal melody or a Keromong melody. The vocal melody and Keromong Besimpatn have a pentatonic scale which in the process of chanting uses ornamentation or cengkok. Besimpatn vocal melodies can be sung by both men and women. Basically, Besimpatn music is played as entertainment music at Begawai 'traditional wedding ceremony. This research is expected to grow people's interest in learning Besimpatn music, especially the Besimpatn melody of the Dayak Cupakng tribe, Simpang Hulu District, Ketapang Regency.
