Abstract


Abstract This study aimed to find out how, Parenting by Single Parents (Mother) in Children's Formal Educational Achievement (Case Study on Families in Saigon RT 004 / RW 008 East Pontianak) is. The method used was descriptive qualitative research form. The data source of this research was single parents (mother) in families in Saigon RT 004 / RW 008 East Pontianak. Data collection techniques in this study were through interviews, observation and documentation, while the data collection tools used were observation guides, interview guides, and documentation tools. The analysis in this study is presented in a descriptive qualitative manner using 3 single parents (mothers) and 4 children as informants. The results showed that (1) Authoritarian parenting was applied by some single parents (mothers), and children who received authoritarian parenting were quite successful in achieving formal education but the children admitted to being unhappy, (2) Democratic parenting has been implemented by single parents (mother), even though it is not optimal, it appeared that democratic parenting was the best parenting style applied by single parents (mothers) in achieving children's formal education, children who are cared for with democratic parenting are proven to be good in their educational attainment (3) Permissive was rarely applied by single parents (mothers). These resulted no significant effect related to children's formal education because single parents (mothers) didn't really use permissive parenting.
