Abstract


Abstract This study aimed to describe the Malay Community Marriage Tradition as the Preservation of Local Culture in Seranggam Village, Selakau Timur District, Sambas Regency. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptiveethnographic approach. The data collection techniques used observation, interview and documentation. The data collection tools were observation guidelines, interview guidelines, field notes and documentation tools. The data analysis techniques used pre-field analysis and data analysis in the field consisting of domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, component analysis and cultural theme analysis. The validity of data, used observations extended, persistence increased, triangulation of sources and triangulation of techniques. The result research showing the implementation of marriage tradition consists of the first was bepari-pari minta, cikram, antar pinang/antar barang. Second was the marriage contract. Third was reading of book al-barzanji, belarak, duduk timbangan, makan saprahan, pulang-memulangkan, balik tikar and menjalankan pengantin. There were a friction of the implementation procedure (1) the development of the times; (2) economic factors;(3) public awareness factors; (4) lack of cultural learning factors.
