Abstract

In studying mathematics, the structure of concepts will be more difficult than studying facts and algoritms. And to study mathematics, the understanding of previous concepts must be well controlled because it becomes a prerequisite for the understanding of subsequent concepts. The concepts that is taught correctly on the students from the foundation is very important in the learning of mathematics to avoid misconception of the concepts, especially the material of geometry. Misconception are also seen as cognitive structure that are firmly attached to students who deviate from the conceptions of the experts. So that misconception is very closed related to cognitive style. The purpose of this research is to describe misconception of the concepts parallelogram based on cognitive style in SMP. This research method used is descriptive with case study. Data collection uses test data collection tools and interviews. The results of this research are the students with field dependent model of cognitive style have 20 misconception. Meanwhile the students with field independent model of cognitive style have 4 misconception. There are 3 characteristic of a misconception that is a misconception to teoritikal, a misconception klasifikasional, and a misconception correlation.
