THE USE OF RACE AND WIN GAME IN IMPROVING STUDENTS’ RECOUNT TEXT WRITING

In recount text, it is very important to write the sentences in the form of simple past tense because it retells a story or describes a sequence of past events. Unfortunately, the students' mastery of simple past tense in writing recount text was poor. The students were confused about the formula and how to write simple past tense in recount text. This research concerned on the purpose: to describe how the use of Race and Win Game can improve students’ mastery of simple past tense in writing recount text. The form of the research was classroom action research which consists of three cycles. The techniques of data collection were observation and measurement technique. The data were taken from observation sheets, field notes, and test results. The finding of the research showed that Race and Win Game improved students’ mastery of simple past tense in writing recount text. The students directly experienced the use of simple past tense because the students should make a grammatical sentence in the simple past tense form based on the instruction on the card. Race and Win Game is recommended for the teacher as an alternative technique to make teaching grammar process interesting.
