Abstract

This research was motivated to explore the function of Arabic Zapin dance in the Pontianak Community, North Pontianak District. This study aims at 1) Describing the function of Arabic Zapin dance in the PontianakCommunity, North Pontianak District. 2) Describe the planned implementation of the functions of the Arab Zapin dance in the PontianakCommunity, North Pontianak District. This research uses descriptive method in qualitative form and uses dance anthropology approach. The data sources in this study are Syarif Mansyur Harun Al-Kadrie, Syarif Usman Al-Kadrie, Syarifah Nurhidayah, Juhermi Tahir. Data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The technique of testing the validity of the data used is source and technique triangulation.Based on data analysis, it can be concluded as follows. The Arab Zapin dance in the Pontianak Community, North Pontianak District, has important functions for life. Function as entertainment and aesthetic shows in celebration to entertain the host, and big events like festivals. The function as an educational media is very important. The results of this study are expected to be implemented in the Art and Culture Lesson at 1st semester X Class in high school.
