IMPROVING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL ON INFORMATIVE SPEECH USING VIDEO

The research was conducted based on the problems found in teaching and learning process. Students had problems with fluency, pronunciation and confidence in speaking of informative speech. The purpose of this research was to investigate how video improved students’ speaking skill on informative speech at the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 01 Selakau in academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted through Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The participants of this research were the eleventh grade English teacher and 28 students in class XI IPA 3. The researcher used observation, speaking performance, and interview to collect the data. The researcher analyzed the observation checklist, field notes, students’ mean score, the teacher’s and students’ interview in order to get the research findings. The result showed that students could deliver the monologue informative speech with good fluency, pronunciation, and confidence. Through practicing and memorizing the monologue informative speech, the student improved their fluency. To improve pronunciation, watching-listening-imitating scripts from video, pronunciation practice and listening-repeating activity were applied. By memorizing the monologue informative speech using stem sentences and practicing in group, the students improved their confidence. In the third cycle of this research, the students’ speaking achievement was 67.82. in conclusion, students’ speaking ability was improved by using video.
