Abstract

Abstract

This case study aims to overcome students’ learning problems of understanding mathematical representation of linear equation by using Graph Plotters. The data analysis shows that  1) students were not seen to be able to draw coordinate points (x,y) precisely in Kartesius diagram, they were incapable of giving responses to the questions, and they made some mistakes during calculation process so that they could not provide the answers accurately.  These problems mainly come from the students themselves because they were lack of concentration in doing the task and they did not try to reassess their answer before submitting it 2) Graph potters can assist the students to solve questions about mathematical representation of linear equation by suggesting some steps that enable them to answer the questions of linear equations easily 3) clinical interviews have a significant influence to overcome the mathematical representation problems especially in understanding the topic of linear equations.

Keywords: problems in mathematical representation, graph plotters, clinical interviews, study case research
