USING SEMANTIC MAPPING IN TEACHING VOCABULARY THROUGH DESCRIPTIVE TEXT TO THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI

Abstract


Abstract :The research is about using semantic mapping in teaching vocabulary through descriptive text to the Eighth Grade Students of SMP Negeri 02 Sadaniang in academic years 2015 / 2016. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of using semantic mapping to increase the students’ vocabulary achievemnt to the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 02 Sadaniang in academic years 2015 /2016. The method used in this research is pre-experimental study. It used measurement technique and the type used is multiple choice and matching word which consist of 20 test items with two supported descriptive text. The population of this research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 02 Sadaniang in academic years 2015/2016. They were 61 students. The sample of this research is 31 students from class VIII B. Based on the data analysis, the mean score of pre-test was 34.19. It was qualifying as very poor while the mean score of post-test was 63.06. It was qualifying average  to very good. The result conclude that using semantic mapping in teaching vocabulary through descriptive text is effective increase the students’ achievement of vocabulary.

Abstrak : Penelitian ini tentang penggunaan semantic mapping dalam mengajar kosakata melalui teks descriptive di kelas 8 siswa SMPN 02 Sadaniang tahun ajaran 2015 / 2016. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meneliti keefektipan penggunaan semantic mapping dalam meningkatkan kosakata siswa kelas delapan SMPN 02 Sadaniang tahun ajaran 2015 / 2016.Metode yang di gunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen.teknik penilaian dalam bentuk pilihan ganda dan mencocokkan kata yang berjumlah 20 soal disertai dua teks descriptive.Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII SMPN 02 Sadaniang tahun ajaran 2015 / 2016.Mereka berjumlah 61 siswa. Sample penelitian ini adalah 31 siswa dari kelas VIII B. Berdasarkan data analisis, nilai rata - rata pre-test adalah 34.19 dalam kualifikasi sangat rendah sedangkan nilai rata – rata post-test adalah 63.06 dalamkualifikasisangatbagus. Hasilnya menyimpulkan bahwa penggunaan semantic mapping dalam mengajar kosakata melalui teks descriptive efektif meningkatkan kosakata siswa.
