Abstract

Palm oil has a various FFA values to produce biodiesel from palm oil optimally requires a catalyst as simultaneous transesterification and esterification reactions. Palm oil with high FFA value can synthesis become methyl ester or biodiesel with one-stage reaction using a solid heterogeneous catalyst. The aim of this research to catalysator synthesis through zeolite impregnation with Sn and PEFB ash for simultaneous transesterification-esterification reaction in palm oil. The methyl ester product was measured by density, viscosity, solubility test, and analyzed by GC-MS. The results from simultaneous transesterification-esterification reaction with Sn-PEFBA/zeolite A catalyst were 53,26% (yield) and 49,79% (% conversion) and with Sn-PEFBA/zeolite B catalyst were 57,74% (yield) and 41,69% (% conversion). The methyl ester product has a density of 0,89 g/mL, viscosity 7,82 cSt, and dominated by methyl oleate, methyl palmitate, and methyl stearate. Both Sn-PEFBA/zeolite catalysts are proven to be used in the simultaneous transesterification-esterification reaction of palm oil with good catalytic activity.
