Abstract

The research aimed to find out diversity of diurnal birds in wild conservation. The research work was conducted in Pulau Datok Coastal Area in North Kayong Regency of West Kalimantan by using spot mapping and count methods. Wild animals are one of natural resources which have important role for human life in ecology, recreation, economy, tourism, education and knowledge. If the birds extinct, the natural resources also will be extinct, therefore they need to be conserved. According to observation, it was founded that of two habitats for diurnal birds there were 17 species. 11 habitats were found in secondary forest with 186 birds and 9 spesies in bush with 210 birds. The observation was conducted in three different time, in the morning at 5.30, at noon at 13.00, and in the afternoon at 16.00 – 17.00. The research findings revealed that there were 17 types of diurnal birds which were classified in 12 families. Based on counting index, index of domination, index of species diversity, and index of highest equity value of habitat in secondary and bush area were birds that inhabited in secondary forest with domination score C = 4,9937, birds inhabited in bush with the highest index of equity value with H = 0,9918, birds in secondary forest with highest species with d = 5,2975 and birds in secondary forest with highest equity valu with e = 0,9556.
