Abstract

The main threat to the existence of pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp) in the protected forest of mount semahung areas caused by human activities such as illegal logging and land clearing. Therefore, conservation efforts should be made in order to remain sustainable existence. The research aimed to know the diversity of pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp) in the protected forest of Mount Semahung. The method of research was observational, sampling used double plots (20 m x 20 m) as much as 20 plots, each plots consisted of 16 small plots with size 5 m x 5 m. The research slowed that in the protected forest of Mount Semahung, there were 268 Nepenthes spp consisted of N. mirabilis, N. ampullaria, N. gracilis, N. hirsuta, and  N. reinwardtiana. Based on Importance Value Index (IVI), N. mirabilis (IVI = 33.0495) and N. ampullaria (IVI = 31.5495%), were species that dominant with IVI values were respectively, rather than N. Gracilis (IVI = 9.9222%), N. Hirsuta (IVI = 7.0354%), and  N. Reinwardtiana (IVI = 4.7736%). Dominance index value, species diversity index, and abundance index for each type of pitcher plants (Nepenthes spp) categorized as low as it had a value less than one. Keywords: Mountain Protection Forest Semahung, pitcher plants, species diversity
