Abstract


Land-use activities, such as oil palm plantations, can affect the presence of the sparrow (Passer montanus). This study aims to determine the population abundance, age structure, and sex ratio of the sparrow (P. montanus). The research was conducted from May to June 2022 at PT. Kebun Ganda PrimaKembayan Factory (PT. KGP-KBF) Tayan Hulu District, Sanggau Regency. The method used in collecting bird data is Capture-Recapture with the Capture, Marking, Release, Recapture (CMRR) technique, namely capturing, marking, releasing, and re-capturing samples at 3 observation stations, namely oil palm plantations, forests, and river borders. Sparrows caught were differentiated according to the age of the bird and the sex of the bird. The results of the study caught 44 individual sparrows (P. montanus). The highest estimated population abundance is in the oil palm plantation area, namely 17±0,026 ind. Chisquare test on the age structure of sparrows showed that there was a difference between the number of young birds and mature birds (X2 count (76.67) > X2 table (5.99), db=2). Adult individuals were caught more than young individuals. The chi-square test on the sex ratio of sparrows showed that more male sparrows were caught than female sparrows (X2 count (23.74) > X2 table (5.99), db= 2).
